 Hey Y'all,

My name is Samantha Owen and this is my story on May’s limited-edition color, “Princess Peach”.

I was sitting at my nail desk, thinking of what color I should pick to help Double Dip with their limited edition color of the month. Which, by the way, I was so honored to be asked to help with! I had to pause for a moment to assist my two boys, who were fighting in the living room. My three-and-a-half-year-old and nine-year-old were playing “Mario”, and when I came in to ask what was wrong, my 3yr old broke into tears at the fact his brother was making fun of him and calling him weird for wanting to play Peach.

For those who don’t know, this game offers four characters you can be (most of them being boys) and one of them just happens to be Princess Peach. My personal favorite.

He took it all in, I could tell he was very hurt and confused as to why his brother was saying mean things to him. He turned to me and said, “It’s not fair Mama, why does it matter that I'm Peach?”

If you don't play Mario, you should know that Peach is a bit easier to play in the game and, come on, it's Peach. She’s awesome. I reassured him that there was nothing wrong or weird for wanting to play as a pink or girl character. I explained to both my sons that it doesn't matter if they play as one of the female characters. They are just as good as the male characters!

Once I had all that settled, I went back to my desk and voila, inspiration for the “Princess Peach” color was made. This color means more to me than just a beautiful peachy color. I will wear it and remember the love and acceptance my son learned that day. The stereotype that boys must play with boy stuff 24/7 or that they are a “sissy” or “weird” for not doing so is simply not true.

Just like how little girls are told they can do anything a boy can do, boys can do anything a girl can do! My son is just a 3yr old boy that wants to play as a kick-ass princess in a Mario game and that is perfectly ok!
